The 1st Desirable Digitalisation Conference: Many Worlds of AI [Deadline: 2022/12/31] The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI), the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with the Centre for Science and Thought (CST) at the University of Bonn, is organizing the 1st Desirable Digitalization Conference: Many Worlds of AI: Intercultural Approaches to the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence from April 26-28, 2023, at the University of Cambridge. The conference will be organized as a hybrid event. Proposals can be submitted until December 31, 2022.

The German Accelerator offers new programs for German start-ups The German Accelerator offers new and exciting programs for German start-ups to build and grow a scalable global business, with a focus on markets in the US and Asia (including Japan). The German Accelerator is operated by German Entrepreneurship GmbH and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Policy (BMWK). Currently, the German Accelerator offers three different programs to support early-stage start-ups in their quest for the global market: Kickstart Program, Market Discovery Program, and Market Access Program. |

Funding for “Research on Youth Culture and Lifestyles” (Yamaoka Memorial Foundation) [Deadline: 2023/01/10] The Yamaoka Memorial Foundation, established to promote academic and cultural exchange between Japan and Europe (German-speaking areas), has been providing research funding since 2018 to advance research into Japanese-German youth culture and lifestyles and foster the next generation of Japanese-German researchers. The research theme is “Research on Youth Culture and Lifestyles in Japan and Europe (German-speaking areas),” and both individual and group research are eligible. All researchers must be residents of Japan or Europe (German-speaking areas) and must be under 40 years of age as of January 10, 2023. |

DAAD Scholarships 2023 for Research in Germany [Deadline: 2023/04/03] The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Regional Office Tokyo is accepting applications for the DAAD scholarships "Research Grants – Short-Term Grants," "Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists," and "Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders" until April 3, 2023. These scholarship programmes are for people who want to do research in Germany. Scholarship eligibility, purpose, and duration of the funding vary from programme to programme. DFG to Fund 13 New Collaborative Research Centres The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is establishing 13 new Collaborative Research Centres (CRC) to further support top-level research in German universities. This was decided by the responsible Grants Committee in Bonn. The new CRCs will receive a total of approximately €166 million in funding for an initial four-year period as of 1 January 2023. This includes a 22 percent programme allowance for indirect project costs. Five of the new networks set up are CRC/Transregios, spread across multiple applicant universities. |

Nichi-Doku Joint Lecture (December 13) On December 13, at 18:30 JST / 10:30 CET, Kyoto University European Center and the Heidelberg University Office Kyoto (HUOK) will hold a joint German-Japanese lecture "Curiosity-driven fundamental science, innovation and transfer. Examples from metal ion based chemistry" in a hybrid format. The input lecture will be given by Professor Peter Comba, “Seniorprofessor“ Institute for Inorganic Chemistry, Heidelberg University, and the short lecture and comments will be given by Prof. Susumu Kitagawa, and Prof. Hiroshi Kitagawa, Kyoto University. Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize Online Conference 2022 (December 14 & 15) We are witnessing the impacts of climate change all around the world. What are the planetary boundaries and social dynamics of decarbonization? At this conference, the DFG Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize winners of 2019 and experts from Germany and Japan will discuss future environmental governance, climate change mitigation and resilience building from a German-Japanese perspective. The lectures and panel discussions will be followed by an online group discussion with the audience.
Within the framework of the DFG Heinz Maier-Leibniz Award Online Lecture 2022, the online workshop "Time travel to the climate future of the planet earth with ClimateTimeMachine" will also take place on December 15 (Capacity is limited to 30 participants).
